Cotswold Carthorse Society

Membership Information
The objects of the Society are to provide a practical service to members who own heavy horses and to provide a source of pleasure and recreation for all who are interested in the heavy horse.



The objects encompass:-
  1. Promoting horse ploughing matches and demonstrations.
  2. Encouraging the inclusion of classes for heavy horses at agricultural and horse shows, and the inclusion of horse classes at ploughing matches.
  3. Arranging lectures, film shows, stud visits and social events.
  4. Encouraging others to work and breed heavy horses.
  5. Encouraging farriers, harness-makers, wainwrights, implement makers, wheelwrights and blacksmiths.
  6. Promoting the study of the history of the heavy horse, its breeding, management and use, and encouraging members to collect records, photographs, drawings and artefacts connected with the heavy horse.
  7. Fostering the supply of implements and equipment designed and constructed in accordance with modern engineering knowledge.
  8. Publishing, or encouraging the publication of, a register of horses at stud.
  9. Promoting such activities as the Council may from time to time consider appropriate.


Membership shall be open to all (irrespective of place of residence) who are in sympathy with the objects of the Society.

The Society shall operate, initially, in the Cotswolds and vicinity. This area may be amended by a decision at an annual general meeting.

Membership other than Life shall be for 1 year commencing on March 1st.
